The Live window, aptly named to evoke the philosophy behind its creation, allows individuals to experience the outside world without any barriers. This innovative design eliminates the typical interruptions caused by vertical profiles of coupling in windows with two or three sashes. The secret lies in the use of a different material for the fourth side of the wood frame, an alloy mineral. This material enables a reduction in the coupling between the sashes from 90-110mm to an astonishingly slim 17mm, which is invisible from both the internal and external views.
The production of Live windows combines automated production techniques with superior craftsmanship. The windows are made using a mix of materials, including wood, glass, aluminum, fiberglass, and mineral alloys. The central node, with its incredibly reduced size of 17mm, is made using mineral alloys that have been engineered to withstand even the harshest atmospheric conditions.
Live windows are tailor-made and can be produced in any dimension. They offer the ability to customize the outside appearance, with options for RAL color or wood effect finishes on the frame's glass. This makes them suitable for individual homes, villas, and any architectural design that requires the preservation of existing aesthetics.
The Live window project was initiated and completed in 2009, with its first exhibition at the Made fair in Milan. Since then, it has garnered recognition and accolades, including selection for the Adi Index in 2009 to participate in the Compasso d'Oro and exhibition in the Italian pavilion at Expo 2010 in Shanghai. In 2010, it was also honored with the prestigious Red Dot Design award.
One of the main challenges faced during the design process was the miniaturization of the central node. Typically, wooden sliding glass doors have a central node of 110mm. Reducing it to just 17mm on a wooden window, while also improving its performance, is a historic achievement in the industry.
The Live window not only offers a unique and visually stunning design but also enhances the overall performance and efficiency of windows. It allows individuals to seamlessly connect with the outside world, even when the window is closed, creating a sense of harmony and extension between the interior and exterior spaces.
With its innovative design, the Live window has been recognized with the Silver A' Design Award in the Building Materials and Construction Components category in 2014. This prestigious award celebrates designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill, leaving a lasting impression on viewers.
